Webpage Information

For those of you who sincerely are looking for information about my site, here are the basics of what I am using and how I am doing all this.

1.  I am using BlueHost as my domain provider and hosting server.  I like them for their 24/7 live technical support.  Their people are knowledgeable when you call, and have never seemed put off by the fact that I do not know what I am doing when I accidentally nuke my own website or insert a line of code that makes no sense and 404′s a page or two or three.  As of this writing, BlueHost offers a very low monthly fee (less than $7 per month) if you sign up for two or three years.

2.  I am using WordPress.org (not to be confused with WordPress.com) for my writing.  Both are free, but with the WP.com you get their tag after your webpage title, so this site could have been called (www.menrising.com/wordpress.com) but instead is now called (www.menrising.com) because I own my domain name.  There is also a lot more flexibility to add on new themes and plugins if you go with WP.org and own your own name.

3.  To that end, I added Thesis Theme (which at the time of this writing only cost $87 for the personal option which has been more than enough for me) for layout and design, and then added Thesis Plugin Hooks which is a free add on.  These two programs together allowed me to completely customize the site to what you see, and to do so with what I’d consider a minimal amount of fuss as I know nothing about HTML code and had no prior experience in web design.
